REVIEW: Advent calendar 12 December 2022

Today, we are to get the last model from the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movie. Yesterday, I speculated what minifigure we might get (assuming we would get one today), expressing my hope that it would be Rita Skeeter. Did my (Christmas) wish come true? Read on to see what we got…

On the twelfth day of Christmas, my advent calendar gave to me…

12 December model

Opening the door, I quickly realise that this is not Rita (at least, she looks very pale in that case). No, this is Lord Voldemort.

Including Lord Voldemort in the Goblet of Fire series of sets is of course a pretty obvious choice, but I do have plenty of Lord Voldemort figures already, so I had hoped for something new.

So is the figure any good?

Well, as far as I can see, the both the head and torso printing is new, which is good. Given there is no hair to cover another face print, this figure only has a single expression printed on the head. The torso, while the print is somewhat simple, is printed on both sides though.

As normal, there is no printing on the skirt.

The best thing with the new figure is the face printing showing the split tongue, he occasionally showed in the movies.

Summary

Again today, I may have put my hopes up too high. I do find it hard to be excited getting another Voldemort figure, but I guess he hasn’t featured that much recently. I got a few from the 2018 Harry Potter Collectable Minifigure (CMF) series 1 and another few from multiple copies of the Rise of Voldemort set from 2019. Excluding the golden anniversary version from last year, he was probably a good figure to get out again for newer collectors. So while my initial reaction was a score under average (3) due to the rather simple torso print, I will lift it to 4 out of 5 house points as my final score. This reflects its value to newer collectors and the split tongue detail.

This completes another movie. Next up is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I wonder what the first model will be? Could it be 12 Grimmould Place in micro-scale maybe? Or the Ministry of Magic? We have had minifigure scale models released for both this year, so either could be a fun addition. Time will tell! Be sure to check back on the 2022 Advent Calendar page tomorrow to see what we got…

Till then, Build the Magic!
