REVIEW: Advent calendar 24 December 2023

The 24th has arrived and we’re to open the final door of the calendar. I wonder what we’ll get there – will the calendar end with a blast or a fizzle? Read on to see what we got…

Interesting. I’m pretty sure it is the first time we get a snow man in a Harry Potter calendar (you’d expect that in pretty much any of the City or Friends calendars).

To build it, there was 10 parts for us today, one of which being a spare.

The model is an easy build as shown below.

So how was the finish?

Starting with the positives, it is clear the model is a snow man – and I appreciate the inclusion of three of the “Bar 1L with Clip Mechanical Claw” in reddish brown. It only started to appear in this colour in 2023 and is rather uncommon still.

On the negative side, it isn’t really a super-impressive and while wintery, it isn’t a model I’d myself put in a Hogsmeade display.

Summary

I’d have preferred finishing with yesterday’s Christmas tree to be honest. Maybe if the snowman had been more connected to the wizarding universe, it would have worked better. Give it a Gryffindor scarf or a wizard hat or something – and a flying broom instead of a gardening broom. But it is not a bad model, and got some useful parts, so overall I’ll award it 3 out of five house points.

So we didn’t get the great finished I’d hoped for, but with a few tweaks, it could have been a decent model. I may post some afterthoughts in the coming days, comparing what we got this year with the previous years.

For now, I’ll finish with thanking you all for following the review series. If you missed any of the posts, you can find them all on the 2023 Advent Calendar page.

With that, I’ll wish you all a Merry Potter Christmas!
