REVIEW: Advent calendar 5 December 2022

Based on the symbol on the door, we should get another model or minifigure associated with the Chamber of Secrets today, but which? And how will it stack up compared with the previous days? Read on to see what we got and my thoughts about it…

Before starting, it seems like I got lucky yesterday – as it seems like most (all) others only got a single spare roller skate. I haven’t experienced a packing error for a very long time.

Having set that straight, let’s move focus back to today…

5 December model

Opening the fifth door, you quickly see that this is another micro-scale build. From the instruction on the back of the door, it is clear that this is the basilisk from the Chamber of Secrets.

It was more straightforward than some of the previous, and I took the opportunity to add an extra challenge for myself — building today’s model while it was still in the plastic bag!

It takes longer, but why not extend the pleasure of the advent calendar on the days where you have the time.

Opening the bag afterwards, I pulled it apart and counted the pieces: 20 pieces in the bag, of which 5 were spares.

Below you’ll find the step by step photos that I’ve also provided the previous days. Happy building!

Here’s the same model from last year’s Chamber of Secret set:

Overall, today’s model is a pretty good representation of the scene (though my mind keeps telling me it is a koala playing with a snake, or maybe an elephant).

The Chamber of Secrets is a perfect addition to the second movie section of the “photo-album” we are creating with this year’s calendar. I can’t think of anything better to be honest. It is rather light on when it comes to piece count, so while it is a well chosen and well executed model, I will not score it any higher than 4 out of 5 house points.

With two micro-scale builds in a row, I’d say tomorrow might give us another minifigure. That is of course assuming that we’ll get one for each of the eight movies. That would be an increase over the usual six minifigures in previous calendars. So maybe it could be something else? Check back tomorrow on the 2022 Advent Calendar page to see what we got.

Till then, Build the Magic!
