REVIEW: Advent calendar 17 December 2023

Seventeen is written on the door for today. Amazing so quickly the month has gone so far. With a series of rather small and therefore underwhelming models lately, I really hope for something substantial today to counter this. So let’s see what today will bring…

As I thought yesterday, we were due for a minifigure.

The minifigure represents Madam Rosmerta who is the barmaid at the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade. This is the last of the four buildings we have the floorplan of on the calendar.

The figure is well done, with the usual detailed printing of both sides of head and torso, as we’d expect these days.

I’m quite happy with the figure, and it is a nice inclusion in the set, even though a rather similar one was included in the 2021 set Hogsmeade Village Visit (you can see my review of that here). Only the legs differ (they were black in that set). She comes with a metallic goblet, which is preferable over another set of wands (I’ve got so many wands now), though not as good as the butter beer glass which was around a few years ago (see below, with the figure to the right being the version included in the 2021 Hogsmeade Village Visit set).

Summary

Today was thankfully a good step up from the last three. It is a really good figure and perfect for the inclusion in a Hogsmeade themed set. The only downside is that an almost identical version was in a set only a couple of years back. For that reason I will limit today’s score to four out of five house points. A butterbeer glass in the older style would have lifted this half a point and for anyone who doesn’t have Rosmerta already, it might have been another five out of five day.

With Rosmerta’s arrival, I think we’re due for a couple of days with interior models from the Three Broomsticks. But what will those models be? Check back tomorrow on the 2023 Advent Calendar page to see what we got.
