December is going super quick. So much to do, but nice to have the morning break with the advent calendar to create some December magic. Wonder what’s behind door 14? I think I’ve guessed it. Read on to see what we got…
Not surprisingly, we got the Ravenclaw statue today (given we got the base for it yesterday). The bag had 11 pieces (with just a single spare).

Being weekend and rainy, I thought I’d spend some extra time trying to build raven statues without looking at the instructions first. I was puzzled by the round brick though.

Anyway, I cam up with a few interesting idea…
You can see the official version below. Cho seems rather impressed. Maybe because one of my attempts got pretty close (left one above).

I’m not sure about those downwards pointing wings. It does give it some dramatic pose I guess. It is easy to turn the around and have them face upwards as my various versions. But I’ll leave them for now. It may grow on me.
Summary
Looking at all the various statues, I must say that I think I like this the most. Still not sure about the wings, but it is an interesting pose and I may keep it that way. And clearly a bird, where you may struggle with some of the other statues to see what they represent.
The ball like piece it is standing up kind of works well. I guess it wasn’t needed, but it would look too small otherwise, and it does enhance the statue feel of the model in my opinion. I was tempted to give it a score of 4 (above any other statue), but it has the lowest part count of the all too, so in the end I settled on 3.5 out of five house points (similar to what I gave the Gryffindor statue on 2 Dec).
Now we got all Hogwarts house students and the statues of mascots. Just the Slytherin table remain, which might be behind the door tomorrow. But then what? It will be interesting to see the following days, so be sure to check back on the 2024 Advent Calendar page to see what we got.
Till then, Build the Magic!

This is the best statue so far, and I like your first version the best! Your wing placement is more majestic. Plus I like the added claw. Nice work! Perhaps Lego should consult with you next time!

Thanks heaps for the kind words. I’d love if LEGO consulted with me before building models – or just employed me 😀
