REVIEW: Advent calendar 8 December 2023

Today, we are a third of the way through the calendar. We’ve had some nice models so far, but still none that I’ve awarded the maximum score. Will today be the day for a 5 out of 5 score? And what will the model be? Read on to see what we got…

We are once again outside, the today’s model being a sign pointing towards Hogwarts.

It is a small model, so only 8 bricks are in the back, one of which being a spare.

But I really like the printed tile with the sign pointing towards Hogwarts! I like it even more than the Sirius Black tile we got a few days ago. I might have to buy a few extra of those on Bricklink for my other models.

Building the sign is easily done, as shown below.

The style matches well the one from the “Sirius Black” poster back on 4 December. I like when you have that kind of consistency across the models. I am a bit puzzled why they added the white round brick in the middle. I think, I’d have preferred another dark brown.

Summary

I really like the sign we got today. The star is of course the printed tile, but the good design, consistent with the previous outdoor model, is another positive. I considered a score up around 4.5 house points, but settled on a score of four, due to the low part count and the while round brick in the middle, which doesn’t quite work for me.

What will we get tomorrow? I am starting to sense a pattern, so my guess is another minifigure, but maybe I’ll be surprised. Time will tell. Check back tomorrow to see on the 2023 Advent Calendar page to see what we got.
