REVIEW: Advent calendar 24 December 2024

The 24th has finally arrived and we’re about to open the final door of the calendar. What will be the last gift? Will the calendar end with a fizzle or a blast? Maybe it depends on whether we’ve been naughty or nice? Read on to see what we got…

We did get another minifigure – bringing the total this year up to 7, which is more than usual in advent calendars.

The figure is Professor Albus Dumbledore in nice red robe. The printing is highly detailed and covers both front and back of both torso and the “dress” part. The latter is rarely printed on the back.

It is a great minifigure to finish with. Now Dumbledore can declare the Christmas feast to start.

Being an older man with white beard, it is obvious to try making him wear the Santa hat we got with the Christmas tree from 18 December.

Now, that’s a great way to finish the advent calendar.

Summary

It is a really nice minifigure, though it would have been even better with an accessory of some sorts beyond the wand. Given we got the Santa hat earlier, maybe Santa’s sack? That would go well with Dumbledore as Santa.

I will still give 4 out of five house points, which is a decent finish for this year’s calendar.

With that, it is time to wrap up for this time. Thanks heaps for following (many of you probably return visitors). As always, it has been great fun writing up and I’ve had more comments and feedback than ever, which makes it truly rewarding. I will wish you all a Merry Potter Christmas!

And as a final remark, if you did miss any of the previous posts, you can find them all on the 2024 Advent Calendar page. I will also in a few days (when finished eating, drinking and sleeping) post my thoughts on this year’s calendar there and compare it with the previous years’ calendars.

Till then, Build the Magic!

  1. Well that was a hoot ! Now you need to get all the previous “Great Hall” calendars out and make one big scene (should have enough tables now!).

I notice on the floor plan that the printed tables match the model ones for content (chess set etc). There are 3 floor tiles in the corners (statue bases) and the front right is the fire place with garlands.

Have you noticed the printed scene inside the box? Missed opportunity to reprint the main pic without doors and numbers? How about some cutout walls etc to make scenery? opinion?

Merry Pottermas, (don’t eat all the cookies !

  2. Another year, another advent calendar in the books… Personally, we were very pleased with this year’s set — with the exception of the dreadful Christmas crackers! Always fun following along with your reviews. Merry Christmas from the USA!
