My recent reviews of both the Room of Requirement set and the Hogwarts Students minifigure pack found they supplemented each other well – in particular in relation Dumbledore’s Army. In this post I explore that further, creating a few extra members of Dumbledore’s Army along the way…
Hogwarts under Delores Umbridge was no fun. She joined initially as Defence against Dark Arts teacher, and subsequently became High Inquisitor and finally Headmistress following a push by the Ministry of Magic to interfere with the running of Hogwarts. The Ministry in particular ignored the reports of Voldemort’s return and was seeing to sideline or ridicule those who were pushing that view.
And in terms of teaching, it was clear after the first Defence against Dark Arts lesson that practical defensive magic would not be taught in the class, as this would be far too dangerous according to Umbridge.
In response, Harry, Hermione, and Ron started a secret (and soon after illegal) organisation they named Dumbledore’s Army in order to ensure students could be trained in proper Defence Against the Dark Arts spells. Following an initial meeting at Hogsmeade, it showed a lot of interest from fellow students.
Harry, Hermione and Ron needed a place to train the members of Dumbledore’s Army though. Dobby suggested the Room of Requirement, as described in a post a while back.
Expanding your own Dumbledore’s Army
The Room of Requirement set covers the training sessions of Dumbledore’s Army, but only included three characters. The Hogwarts Students sets however adds another couple, and mixing it with other body parts, in particular from the original Harry Potter Collectible Minifigure (CMF) Series 1, you start to get a decent number.
From the students pack, you can directly use Hannah Abbott. The pack also includes another Dumbledore’s Army member Cho Chang. I’m not too impressed by that version though and would suggest mixing that up with the Cho Chang figure from the CMF series instead, where the hair is much closer to Cho’s normal hairstyle in the movies.
Simply swap the hair pieces of the two, and you can call pretend the other one is Padma Patil (as per the books – in the movies they appear both in Gryffindor colours).
If you have any spares, you can create her sister Parvati Patil as well.
The Student pack also gives you an extra Harry Potter (one was in the Room of Requirement set too). An easy was of creating another member is to swap hands, face and hair with the Dean Thomas minifigure from the CMF Series 1.
The new Harry is of course not useful in this scene, but potentially could fine use in other MOCs.
Here’s the full lot of figures based on the above.
Other scenes from the Room of Requirement
The Students pack include Draco, who would be lurking outside trying to find the entrance. Luckily Harry got the Marauders Map to keep track of him.
Also, you can recreate the scene with Harry and Cho Chang under the mistletoe following the last practice session before the Christmas holiday.
And moving on the Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince, you can recreate the scene when Draco has repaired the vanishing cabinet sufficiently to transfer objects between the Room of Requirement and the similar cabinet at at Borgin and Burkes, the dark magic shop in Knockturn Alley.
Draco put an apple into the vanishing cabinet and it returned with a bite taken showing it had successfully made it to the other end and back.
What is next?
In this post, we have still only made a few of the members of Dumbledore’s Army. I may continue adding more in another post. For those who’s keen to continue creating their own, here is a full list of the known members:
- Alicia Spinnet
- Angelina Johnson
- Katie Bell
- Colin Creevey
- Dennis Creevey
- Fred Weasley
- George Weasley
- Dean Thomas
- Lee Jordan
- Lavender Brown
- Neville Longbottom

- Padma Patil
- Cho Chang
- Marietta Edgecombe
- Anthony Goldstein
- Michael Corner

Maybe the rumoured Harry Potter CMF Series 2 set will give us more of these characters (it would be awesome with new versions of Fred and George). The next CMF series is likely to hit the shelves around September, so I guess we will soon know.
Till then, Build the Magic!
