REVIEW: Advent calendar 8 December 2020

We got a really interesting model yesterday, with a hint of Christmas included. What will today bring? Has Christmas got any closer? Here is what we got…

It is not quite Christmas yet – but again, we have a strong connection with the Goblet of Fire.

Today’s model is a couch from the Gryffindor common room. It could be pretty much any movie, but the model include a golden egg. Harry took the golden egg from the Hungarian Horntail in the first Tri-wizard tournament challenge. The egg was a clue for the next challenge, and Harry procrastinated solving the clue (though Hermione was nagging him to get started).

This still from the Goblet of Fire movie may be what inspired today’s model

Luckily, Harry got a hint from Cedric in the end and was able to solve the riddle and be sufficiently prepared (just in time) for the second challenge.

The golden egg has only been included in one previous set – the Hungarian Horntail Triwizard Challenge (set 75946) from 2019.

8 December model

Today’s model is a nice couch in Gryffindor colours, perfect for the Gryffindor common room, for Harry to rest. We got 20 pieces, with 17 being for the couch, two spares and then of course the golden egg.

Now Harry has somewhere to sit and ponder over the clue the golden egg is hiding. At least Hermione is not around to nag him.

Without the egg, I would probably have scored the set at 3.5 housepoints, as reasonable large, nice looking and in good Gryffindor colours, but also a bit plain and by itself not strongly connected to the Goblet of Fire. Getting another golden egg is a big plus and brings up my final score to 4.5 out of 5 housepoints for today’s model.

So another good advent calendar day. What will tomorrow bring? Maybe we will get more furniture for the common room? Or maybe we are due to get another minifigure? We will soon find out. Check back tomorrow on the Advent Calendar review page to see.

Till then, Build the Magic!
