I was pretty happy with yesterday’s model from the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter advent calendar. Will today’s model be equally good? Will we get our first top score of 5 out of 5? Read on to see what we got…
The symbol on the front of today’s door shows that today’ we’ll get another model from the Prisoner of Azkaban movie.
8 December model
Opening the number 8 door, we see this is another micro-scale (following the trend observed observed so far, with two days of micro-scale models followed by a minifigure per movie).

A quick count shows today’s bag has 18 pieces of which 3 turns out to be spares. That is the lowest piece count so far – though a tie with the Quidditch goal hoops from 2 December.
The model itself is a small vignette with the dementors closing in on (an imaginary) Sirius Black by the late. Luckily, we know Harry would show up to rescue him. A somewhat surprising choice (I had expected a building of some though), but perfectly aligned with the movie.
The photos below show how to build the model step-by-step. It is not too tricky, though it can be a bit hard to see how one of the dementor’s is attached to the tree.

While there aren’t too many interesting parts, the two included dementors are quite cool – and any star wars fans could easily use them to represent Darth Vader too!
We’ve seen many of the small models in this year’s calendar reflecting scenes covered by some of the bigger minifigure-scale Harry Potter sets we have seen published to date. This is also the case today, with the scene quite closely matching the 2019 set Expecto Patronum. Below you can see how that set looked.

Summary
I had expected something like Hagrid’s Hut, but I like the small vignette of the dementors by the lake.
As with yesterday’s model, I do like the landscaped model, but with only 18 pieces, it cannot get a too high score. The fact that two of the pieces are micro-scale figures (dementors) do however pull it up to a score of 4 out of 5 house points.
This was another Prisoner of Azkaban model. Guess tomorrow might give us a minifigure, but which? One more sleep and we will find out. Be sure to check back on the 2022 Advent Calendar page tomorrow to see what we got.
Till then, Build the Magic!
