Six new LEGO Harry Potter sets due in March 2023

It has been a busy month for me travelling. While I had planned it so I could continue my daily advent calendar review posts, I couldn’t keep up with the other news, such as the official photos revealed of the new Harry Potter sets due 1 March 2023. So now where I’m back where my laptop is, let’s have a look at what’s coming…

The six sets revealed can be grouped into two types.

Firstly, we have the traditional minifigure-based playsets, of which we’ll get two. One covers the room of requirement from the scene in the Deathly Hallows part 2, which is the first time that version of the room has been represented in an official LEGO set. It is modular, so it connects with the other Hogwarts sets from the 2021 and 2022 series. The other set is a remake of the 4762 Rescue from the Merpeople set, covering the second challenge from the Triwizard Tournament set in The Black Lake.

Secondly, we’ll get four new sets labelled “House Banners” – one for each of the four Hogwarts Houses. The latter seems to be replacing the Hogwarts Moments buildable book sets, which are expected to retire. Like the Hogwarts Moments books, which opened up to reveal a classroom, the House Banner sets open up to reveal a room, in this case the common rooms of the four houses.

Minifigure highlights

The six sets will give us a number of new minifigures of characters not previously represented in LEGO: Angelina Johnson, Michael Corner, Pansy Parkinson, Blaise Zabini and The Grey Lady. We also get new versions of Susan Bones and Hannah Abbott, who otherwise only have been appearing once before.

It is also worth noting that one figure from each of the House Banner sets has a Quidditch sweater on, which is great for those trying to get full Quidditch teams for each of the houses.

We’ll also get an updated merperson minifigure, and a newly moulded Grindylow figure.

A new way to build

For all the sets, you can let the LEGO Builder app guide you (though note this is designed with kids in mind) on an intuitive building adventure. Users can save sets, track progress and zoom in and rotate models in 3D while they build.

Below, you can see the six sets and the descriptions provided by LEGO, starting with the two normal playsets, followed by the four Hogwarts banners sets.
