REVIEW: Advent calendar 22 December 2021

December has gone incredible fast. I can’t believe we are already opening the third last door of the calendar. We haven’t seen much related to Christmas though so far. Will today change that? Read on to see what we got…

Once again, nothing related to Christmas. Today we got our sixth (and presumingly last) minifigure.

22 December model

Today’s model is a Draco Malfoy minifigure. It is undeniably one of the most important characters in the Harry Potter universe, and as such a good inclusion, though I think Hagrid would have been a more popular choice and would have fitted better with the whole “Journey to Hogwarts” theme of the calendar.

The minifigure is unique to this calendar, but that is through the use of the new “neutral” Hogwarts uniform torso, which we got with both Ron and Hermione as well. Like those two characters, Draco comes with two sets of wands. I guess it is useful for those new to collecting Harry Potter, but having collected for many years, I’m definitely not short of wands, and another accessory would have been appreciated instead of one of the set of wands.

As will all the other minifigures included in this calendar, both torso and head is printed on both front and back.

Overall, it is a nice minifigure representation of Draco as looked before the sorting ceremony.

The calendar has given us three characters with the new torso pieces (another one is included in the 2022 Hogwarts Magical Trunk set). It makes it a useful “battle pack”; a reference to LEGO sets suitable to give you many characters for an army, or in this case Hogwarts Students (noting that the 2020 Hogwarts Students minifigure pack is an even better way of getting students though)

You can easily swap heads and create new students using the torso and leg pieces, as below where I’ve turned Draco into Harry.

So while three identical torsos do feel repetitive, it is also quite useful in a way.

Summary

As with Hermione, it is a good representation of Draco as seen in the movies. But having already got the torso with Ron and Hermione, makes it less interesting. And if I were to change one of the figures in this calendar, it would probably be Draco – replacing him with either Hagrid or maybe one of the shop owners at Diagon Alley.

I’ll still award it 3.5 out of 5 house points, that is slightly above an average score.

What will tomorrow bring? Not a minifigure, as we’ve now got six already. With just two more doors left to open, I hope it is something Christmas related. Check back on the advent calendar review page in 24 hours to see what we got…

Till then, Build the Magic!
