While the upcoming DK book "Magical Treasury - A visual guide to the Wizarding World" has been known for some time, the included exclusive Minifigure has so far been unknown. However, Amazon has now published updated photos revealing that the included figure is Tom Riddle.
Already back in mid 2019, it was announced that after a relatively quiet 2019 for Brickheadz, the funko-pop style figures that was a major LEGO line in 2018, would return in 2020 with more releases. It was also noted that it would include licensed figures. As LEGO already has an active licence for Harry Potter LEGO, it would be obvious for them here in 2020 to add to the three sets we got in 2018. But which?
The weekend 18-19 January 2020 I visited Brickvention in Melbourne. It was an amazing experience with 300 exhibits and expectedly 22,000 visitors. This makes it Australia's premier LEGO Fan convention. This post covers the exhibits I saw that were Harry Potter related and really shows the skills of the builders exhibiting there.
Back in September 2019 I visited Skærbæk Fan Weekend in Denmark. It is the biggest LEGO Fan Convention in Europe with more than 1000 LEGO Fans attending the convention and bringing along some really awesome displays. Here's an overview of the models that covered the Wizarding World of Harry Potter universe in some way.
The Dursley family contains some of the most iconic characters in the Harry Potter universe. Without Harry's horrible time with the Dursleys at 4 Privet Drive, it just wouldn't be the same. It is therefore a bit surprising that of those, only Vernon Dursley has been released as minifigure, and that was back in 2002 where they were still yellow faced. When the Clock tower set came out mid year, I planned to skip it, but quite wanted the figures. The whole set grew on me, realising you got a number of new rooms: Prefects bathroom, Madeye Moody's classroom, and the hospital. So when it eventually went on sale, I bought it immediately. Reviewing it has taken months though. But as the set has all the minifigures dressed up for the Yule ball, I thought I better get it done in time for Christmas.
Christmas is literally just around the corner with today giving us the second last model, leaving us with just one more lid to open tomorrow. I had kind of expected what we got today would have been tomorrow's model - leaving me very curious what we'll get tomorrow! But let's first have a look at what we got today...
It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas, Bing Crossby (and Perry Como and others) sang a long time ago. In my house, the Christmas tree got decorated today, and in the kitchen a lot of Christmas goodies were prepared for the coming days. Today's Harry Potter advent calendar also added to the Christmas feel, with a nice seasonal model as you will see...
We are down with just a few more lids left to open. Yesterday left us in suspense giving us "half a model". With great curiousity I opened the lid to see what the completed model would look like. Compared to the actual, it looks awesome, as you will see...
